Greetings again, fellow Custom Pagers!
As you may recall, my last blog dealt with the explanation of what exactly Customization is, what it is best suited for, and ultimately, how SAVO gives you this option to fully express your Corporate or Personal ‘Graphic Vision’ when designing a Custom Page within our application. But, as some of you may have already asked, ‘Where do we start?” This is easily answered: At the top!
The first place I would consider starting is with the Gatekeepers at your current workplace. Whom are these ‘keepers of the Gates’? Simply: They are (generally) the principle users and probable main contributors to your knowledge base. They are CEO’s, CFO’s, Sales Managers, Quality Assurance Supervisors, Marketing Gurus, and otherwise successful salespeople (and other leaders of your Corporate Culture). Once you have identified those persons of interest, you can formulate questions that will give you the best way to present your information, ie: What are your goals? What issues/problems/concerns are you aiming to solve/lessen by creation of this custom page?
For example, if you are mainly going to be using SAVO as a repository for your electronic knowledge base (presentation and marketing material sharing), you’d want to design a page around Document retrieval and access. But if your main aim of the page is to just to have the Company Quarterly Report available to your 500 salespeople in the Pacific Rim without sending emails, then you have far different goals and should plan for more direct informational pieces. Again, this point is Simple: You don’t use a hammer to open a jar of mayonnaise. More simply put, you use the right tool for the job. And the road to figuring out what those tools are starts with the planning phase.
At the risk of sounding trite, the old adage does stand true: “People don’t plan to fail…They fail to plan.” Don’t fall into this trap! Ask good questions, formulate wide-reaching goals, and then implement them in easy to understand language and ideas. A SAVO custom page will do the rest!
All things being equal: Custom is king.
